BCS, Cubs and the 8-1 Bears.

I need to get a few things off my chest. Permit me a moment to put up a small disclaimer: I am a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines. That being said, what a great game that was. I've been hearing many arguments from both sides about who will play OSU for the NC. Looking at USC and Florida as the only two teams that can be legit canidates, I ask you one question, Did either team lose to the #1 ranked team in the country? Fla lost to the then 13th ranked Tigers of LSU and USC lost to an unranked Oregan State. Can you knock a #2 team who goes on the road against #1 and lose by three points? I say no, but I'm slightly biased. These are clearly the two best schools in the nation and should play again in January. We'll argue later about if a Michigan win would equal a split of the title.

The Cubs. Wow. Pony up for the best manager available, but haven't pulled the trigger on the big deal yet. Oh, Jimmy boy, you're about to lose out on a chance to get some of my sheckles. I want lot more then you have done, and I do deserve it as a long suffering cubs fan.

I still believe the road to the Super Bowl for the NFC leads through Chicago. Everyone take a deep breath. Rex essentially is a rookie with alot of film study. He will make his mistakes. I'd rather see them now then in Dec, Jan and of course Feb. I think the Jets game will be a lot closer then people expect but I still see a win. New England is starting to implode a bit. Normally they have righted the ship at this point in the season and steam roll the rest of the way. Not sure how that game will pan out, but I am not as apprehensive about that as I was during the bye week.

Magical year for Da Bears?

I am amazed at what the Bears have done in just five games this year. Yes, it's only been 5 but you can't have a superbowl team without beating whoever lines up against you. Grossman in the top 5 of QB stats, top 5 offense, top 3 defense. I could go on but, you've seen the scores... The games that worry me are the 3 straight out east. Can they get up for every single game, when in all reality, the NFC north might've clinched by then? AFC is going to be a war of attrition, and I calling it right now, the Bears are clearly the best team in all three aspects of the game in the NFC, maybe the entire NFL. A good measure will be Monday night, not because the Cardinals are decent team, the Bears are horrible in their MNF appearances. If they can get that monkey off their back and win on the road, it will go a long way to silence the critics, which happen to be our local media. Nationally, the press got on the band wagon with the Seattle trouncing, but some of our local guys are not caving in and for some, being "objective", for the first time in their careers. I'm loving every minute of this circus and actually cannot wait for each Sunday. What a wreck I'll be on the bye-week. Enjoy the spectacle while we can. Picks will be on Thursday for those who care, and maybe the cubs will announce their new manager by then.

Goodbye Johnny B. Baker.

Thanks for everything you did for the organization, your insightful quotes, keeping Sammy and Moises in check, teaching good fundamental baseball, having faith in rookie players, calming your young pitchers down when they were in trouble, hiring Wendell Kim, and having an under .500 record. We know you did your best.... for those of you of the literal generation, that was a run-on sentence and sarcasm. Dunno who will be clambering to take over the reigns of this FUBAR team but all I know is that I'm beginning to lose faith in Hendry. Jim, as a REAL Cubs fan, impress us this off season. Brewers are only a 40-50 minute trip from my house and do partial plans.

Picks this week:

Buffalo @ Bears
Tenn @ Indy
Wash @ NYG
Detroit @ Minnie
T.B. @ N.O.
St Louis @ Green Bay
Miami @ N.E.
Cleveland @ Carolina
NYJ @ Jax
K.C. @ Arizona
Oakland @ S.F.
Dallas @ Philly
The Burgh @ S.D.
Baltimore @ Denver

Jason Grimsly = Kryptonite????

I will not name names in this post, that is why I linked the article that is running in the LA Post. For all who have forgotten, Jason Grimsly a former journeyman relief pitcher who got pinched by the "Gee" for possession of HGH is cooperating with the feds and parts of his grand jury testimoney have been leaked. I'll let y'all draw your own conclusions.

NFL week 4 picks (sorry im late):

Bears
Indy
S D
Buffalo
Dallas
K C
N O
Atlanta
Houston
St Louis
N E
Washington
Oakland
Philly

Oh yeah, a little pub to Garrett Wolfe, running back for Northern Illinois. In 5 games he has gained 1181 yards on the ground. He leads 1A ball in every running category and has the most TD's rushed. Yet, the national media is not giving him his due, because he plays in the MAC. Did they see what he did to Ohio State??? If I had a vote all of them would go him. BTW he is projected to have 2700 yards at season's end....

Can I get a witness....

.....Blue went to South Bend and faced Touchdown Jesus, the 80,000 faithful and NBC network. Oh, yeah and Weis' wonder boys too. Given no shot by the suits in Vegas and the national media the University of Michigan's Wolverines, came, saw and handed the golden domers their lunch. What an all around performance. People who know me, know I'm a rabid M fan and have been calling for Lloyd Carr's resignation the past couple of years. Maybe I was unfair, considering Mike Hart was lost after the second game last season. I hope I'm not getting to high after this victory but one could only dream.

Second point: This weekend could really be a great one if Rex and company open up a can of Mississippi ass whoop all over the Lions today. Looking for some magic at the crash landed space craft on the shores of Lake Michigan this afternoon.
