Cardinals = Classless?

Leave it up to Larussa to have his boys ask to check the ball Maddux was throwing. Maddog has been a pitcher for 20 seasons now, you think he may know how to pitch? Yet these classless maggots decide that since their not knocking the cover off the ball, that Maddux must be doctoring the ball. Asshat of week award: The St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs had it handed to them this weekend but will come out of the season series 4-2, and 5-4 for a nine game road trip. A little home cooking never hurts. Cedeno could be your new #2 hitter, has been handling the spot like a professional. The upcomming series: Vargas v. Meathead, Vargas nearly gives up a walk an inning against a team that doesn't take walks. We'll see who gives on this one.
Willis v. Marshall, the kid isn't gonna get much run support but hopefully Dontrelle will be human in this start. Olsen v. Guzman; Guzman's MLB debut, and will need to eat innings because if Marshall has forced Dusty to yank him in the 5th inning of each of his starts, except the one he won. The pen could be taxed a bit by Weds, game. How about 2 of 3.

    Head games are a normal part of baseball from stealing signs to lowering or raising radar gun speeds to screw with the opposing pitcher. (see Dodgers game the other night - Zambrano throws 96-99, not 86 - 89)

    LaRussa's record suggests that he knows what he's doing. Maddux should, and I'm sure he does, take the checking of the ball as a compliment, meaning that his shit is soooo nasty that it is not normal. Maddux is pitching like he's from another planet. . .you've got to try everything with him or you have no chance. And yes, Maddux does know what he's doing. . .after 20 years I'm sure that he could also effectively doctor a baseball, if needed. . .(which he doesn't)

    Classless is turning the hot water off in the Cardinals showers during the last season. . .that is not a part of the game. Big difference between the two.

    Classless is blaming a fan for losing to the Marlins in '03. . .or putting a windscreen up to obstruct the view of rooftop seats. Or firing the best color man in baseball (Stone) because he was critical on the air. Or corking bats. . .

    And that's all I got to say about that.

    Lets address a few points you bring up:
    1. Ever have a water heater go out on you? I don't believe cold showers were intentional.
    2. No one but Moises Alou blamed Bartman for losing the game to the Marlins. If anything, Dusty made a huge error not coming out to settle down Prior. Alex Gonzalez booting a tailor made DP to end the inning helped bring the end to the dream season.
    3. Stone was not FIRED, he was given a year extension at good money and refused to come back. I do agree Stone has possibly the smartest baseball mind, that is not part of any baseball organization. Maybe with Cuban buying the Cubs (not a reach) that situation would be rectified.
    4. Wrigley Field is unique in that it is smack dab in the middle of a residential area which is surrounded by taller buildings. The rooftop owners were charging admission to watch a live baseball game. Since the MLB owners are in this venture to make a profit, then it's well within their rights to demand money from people making money off their product.

    On a side note the biggest miserly
    move on the Tribunes part is scalping their own tickets. Yet Crook county says it's okay as long as they are properly licensed. It seems all organizations in sports are doing it in one form or another, they become their owner ticket brokers by offering season ticket holders to sell tickets on their own websites for a 10% cut and they do not have to pay extra taxes for it. Yes, as I was watching a Cards game, the Mad Hungarian was plugging this service for the fans to be able to enjoy the new stadium. As with the issue of head games, Maddux is 20 years removed from being a rookie and Larussa was doing nothing more than saving face with the home crowd because the team could not hit a 40 year old who cannot top out his fast ball at 84 miles an hour. :p

    Water heater going out at a $100 million dollar facility?. . .you'd think that there would be more than one water heater.

    Didn't Bartman receive death threats? Cubs remained silent on the issue rather than telling their fans to leave him the hell alone.

    Maybe LaRussa was saving face. . .Cards fans are generally baseball savvy. . .they generally go to games to see a game rather than to be seen on their cell phones. . .hey look, I'm at Wrigley. . .dunno shit about baseball but at least I am here!!

    As for the Bartman fiasco, wasn't that the year where the white sox had to incidents of fans running on to the field resulting in an aggravated battery of Gamboa? 2003 had a lot of asshat activities from fans across MLB. If Bartman, a so called cubs fan, had an ounce of sense and was a fan of baseball in general he would've made an effort to let Alou attempt a play on the ball. The same with all the idiots who attempt to interfere with a live ball. What really shocks me is when they do it to the home teams detriment.
    Do you blame the Columbian government for the murder of the soccer player who screwed up during the World Cup in Chicago? The Cubs provided him with an escort and got him out relatively safe. What happens days, weeks or months later is out of their hands. We've become an extremely stupid society, where there are even warning labels on plastic bags! As for the largest beer garden in the country coutre crowd, I agree with you, but you can't paint us all with a broad brush. Some of us actually know the game and get unfairly stereo-typed as clueless hedonists who just want to be seen.
