If you have to go to a game.....
Through a trusted friend who is in the know, I got a solid figure of what the tribune co. makes every game with concessions. After overhead, it is $800,000 on average a game. I like most real Cub fans, buy two games a season to watch as a fan of my beloved team. Well, I do not contribute any extra funding. I do not purchase beer, hot dogs (that was tough) or a program. If you still want to go to a game, eat and have a cold one before you go into Wrigley. It is nearly 65 million of lost revenue to the tribsters. You think they may pay attention. Damn straight they would. You will still support the team, but not hand over extra revenue to these bastards.

I have a tough time believing that the Cubbies operate at a loss. I realize that you are not counting TV revenues, but that $$$ that you are talking about doesn't even meet the payroll expenditures.

I did the figures before. From last year's ticket prices, average price is 30.05. With 3 million (again last year) in attendance that comes to 96 million. Add 2 million from rooftops, Probably 5-8 for the advertising at the park.
10% gate for road games, probably low end 2.5 million. Whatever they make w/the TV deals, XM etc. Plus merchandising.
Payroll w/ benefits is 95 million for the parent club. Say another 25 for expenses. Say 25 for the farm system (payroll, operating expenses. About 150 million going out.
My contention is gate and advertising money alone covers the operating expenses alone. Everything they earn in merchandising and concessions are profit. Remember, I'm not even factoring in the 3% increase in ticket prices. Nor did I factor in the additional 1800 seats that were added this year and the extra 14 million each team in MLB will get for the sale of the Nat's. I'd be surprised if the trib did not pull in 100 million in profit a year.

"If you HAVE to go to a game..."
AND you have a "button" and your I.D. card...
You CANNOT beat the the price at GATE G at 1060 West... (have to sign in, behave, and officially you have no real "seat"/ticket stub... but the price is right!
Too bad they frown on bringing a non-"BUTTONED" guest anymore... ;-(
* (NOTE: Haven't "BUTTONED" in this year (yet), and getting into The Bleachers this way has been near-impossible in the past... cameras are everywhere there and the senior citizens and young folks ushering there tend to really take their jobs seriously/"no exceptions"... DON'T BLOW the BREAK that STILL EXISTS! ;-)

From a previous thread... If the Flubbies fall more than ten games back anytime soon, if I were in charge I'd reach out to Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro and get them back in the line-up as soon as they could get in playing shape. Why the hell not? If Big Head Bonds can keep chasing Ruth & Aaron, why not our two former Cubbies? Sammy is only 12 away from 600, I think they could both be gotten VERY cheap... I'd go see them, but probably not the team in it's current state...

FG, welcome aboard. I thought whitlock was the only one to peruse my daily angst. Thanks for the tips and clues about 1060. Whitlock has been on my case bout Raffy since DLee went down. I guess if they would sign minor league contracts, it couldn't hurt. Stay safe.

Holy shit . . .sorry, they are bad. About as fundamentally bad as I've ever seen. Making high school mistakes. Please re-sign Dusty!!!

I actually called the Piazza shot today and have witnesses. Are you there? Or have you slit your wrists. Plenty of room on the birds bandwagon. Jump on and have some fun this summer. Just one summer. . .the Cubs will probably be winners next year.
